Name: Sam Kirk
Job Role: Project Manager
Time at Vertech: 3 years
Your professional background and experience: I became an ASME IX coded welder when I was 18, and went on to do oil and gas construction and maintenance from then on. About 10 years ago, I got my AS 1796 cert 10 and CSWIP 3.1, and changed over to more inspection and supervision based roles throughout Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. My first job with Vertech was as an abseiling ABS welder on the FPSO Raroa, which was really interesting, and In 2021 I started with Vertech NZ full time, as a RVI Project coordinator. As I have become more familiar with the requirements of our New Zealand clients, I have changed into a project management role which has been really enjoyable, offering a whole new set of skills to learn. I still get out and do a lot of the site field work where required too. Going forward, I am really looking forward to seeing how I can help develop Vertech’s capabilities in NZ, and diversify our inspection technologies outside of the oil and gas industry. I am also available to assist with any Vertech group companies weld procedure or quality technical advice too.
Key focus of your role: Client liaison, planning and management, and strategies.
Business units you oversee: NDT, RVI and Facilities Inspection
Tell us something about yourself: I am developing an organic market garden, with which we currently supply fruit and vegetables to our local village market weekly. I also tramping in the mountains around NZ, ride motorbikes and spend time with my wonderful children Jasmine (11) and Malachi (12)
